I have a variety of presentation topics to offer, though I can certainly be flexible to meet the needs of any presentation request. My recent presentation topics have included: “Once a New Teacher, Always a New Teacher,” which reflects on the importance of approaching the start of each school year with zest and enthusiasm, as well as habits for surviving a lifelong career in education; “Creating Powerful Partnerships,” which outlines how to better promote family engagement to yield student success; “Literacy Learning and Writing Woes,” where I discuss techniques for fostering an appreciation for reading and writing in secondary classrooms; “Failing Forward: The Power of Positivity,” where I share an honest, humorous, anecdotal look at how I went from fearful, frustrated, failing novice to Illinois Teacher of the Year; and “Becoming Teacher Leaders,” which addresses ways that teachers can advocate for education. I have presented on the aforementioned topics at The Mt. Vernon Teacher Conference, The Raising Student Achievement Conference, The Kiwanis International Key Club Convention, The Illinois Association of Teacher Educators Midwest Conference, The Whatever it Takes (WITcon) Conference, The ISBE “Those Who Excel” Banquet, The Livingston County Administrator Breakfast, Northwestern University, Eastern Illinois University, Illinois State University, and countless teacher professional development.
